COMPANY HISTORY
TEC-CORP
Thompson Electric Company was founded by Alfred C. Thompson at Sioux City, Iowa, in 1933. He dedicated his company to the simple principle of offering a level of fairness and quality to both his customers and his employees. This theory allowed the company to grow steadily until his retirement in 1978.The reins of leadership were assumed by his son, Craig H. Thompson, who continued this growth while maintaining the ideas set forth by his father.
The continual development of management personnel allowed for this sustained growth and also the search for other challenges. Thompson Electric Company developed into a strong, well financed company ranked in the top among Midwest electrical contractors.
The pressure for expansion and growth became very strong in the mid 1980’s. It was viewed as a means of retaining strong, aggressive management talent by offering growth opportunities beyond what a mid-sized, one-location construction company could.
While some expansion occurred within Thompson Electric Company, it became apparent that a different structure was needed, thus TEC-Corp was born.
TEC-Corp was founded in 1987 and holds several companies.
TEC’s primary responsibility is to act in support to each of the operating companies and offer services not available to the companies individually.
Some of these services are:
Financial
Loss Prevention
Information Systems
Fleet Management
Documentation
Training Circa 1933 2000
Using TEC-Corp as a catalyst, strength is developed through teamwork and the support each of the operating companies may lend to the others.
Each operating company has a General Manager and is responsible to create a well run, profitable operation that meets the expectations of our mission statement, management philosophy, and long range planning.
While electrical construction still is a significant portion of TEC-Corps’ overall revenue, there is much more.
Throughout the late 1990’s, TEC Corp. developed a leadership team that continues the original goals.
